Woody Harrington

Aren’t these fun designs by Woody Harrington great? We love his vintage style and his use of typography and color. Take a look at some of our favorites! Oh and be sure to check out the cool video at the bottom!

ROOD by rENs

If the Queen of Hearts were here, she’d be wondering who is painting her skirts, dresses, blouses and roses red. Her answer would be the design firm rENs. The clothing starts off white and ends in a multitude of rich red shades, all dyed and personalized by hand. Here is a fun video breaking down their process. Hopefully after seeing this, all you’ll want to see and wear is red!

Florence & Millie Relaunch Party!

As many of you know, back in May we held a relaunch party for Florence and Millie here in Savannah. We thought we’d finally share about it with those who weren’t able to make it. The party was an amazing success! It was held to bring a personal connection to the blog. There was amazing artwork displayed by local artists, food made by our very own Kat Lucas, fun games, and a photo booth! There was also a raffle with different prizes offered to the attendees that included a tie from Hack and Hue, an independent tie shop out of Brooklyn, NY and illustrations from Heather Pullen.

A big highlight of the evening was a performance by the Milk Factory Bandits. Their southern twangy soul filled the room with warmth and good thoughts. You can listen to more of their music at here!
Thank you so much to Jen, Melissa, and Alexis for taking photos and video, and of course a big thank you to everyone who came to the party!

Anne-Sophie Rosenvinge Skov

We came across a collection of short films by Anne-Sophie Rosenvinge Skov, and found her work quite influential. She consistently combines tinkering sounds and words to compliment her textural visuals. The tantalizing combination of the two resonate in our minds and ears. Here are some of our favorites from her collection, enjoy!

A Recurring Theme: The Human Form

For many centuries the human form has been an ever-present theme in the art world. Interpretations and presentations of the body have  continuously evolved throughout time, and still continues today. From forbidden, stylized, realistic, abstracted to conceptualized, we have seen the human body in a variety of diverging styles. Along with differing styles, there is also an abundant range of such mediums as painting, performance, photography and sculpture to name a few. Despite these differences, the body’s elegant lines and softly flowing shapes remain.

With a theme that has such a precedence, one would imagine that it might be difficult to create a personal distinction. However these are a few of our favorites from a variety of artists with an inspiring feeling of individuality to them, while still representing the human form.

Helen Rödel

Here’s a video documenting the process of creation and conceptualization of designer, Helen Rödel. Her thought process and approach are completely one-of-a-kind. Enjoy the video and happy fashion Friday!

Wovenplay

We are seriously loving Wovenplay children’s wear right now. Wovenplay is the secret to making your kid the coolest on the block. It’s difficult to find fashionable children’s wear that is unique from all the rest, and Wovenplay has done just that. Their developed, whimsical, fun aesthetic provides a consistently complete look, down to their collection, look books and videos. With their inclusion of winsome illustrations, whether it be on tights, sweaters or just their presentation, they bring a youthful look that is desired by children and parents.

There’s more! Not only does Wovenplay make the cutest clothing, but it’s all hand-crafted, and made out of sustainable fabrics. So there’s no going wrong. An extremely well-dressed child and a lower impact on the environment, sounds like a win-win to us!

Here is some of our favorite looks and a promotional video!

Vinegar Hill Production House

We have been blown away from Vinegar Hill. Vinegar Hill is David Altrogge, Ian Murphy, Michael Hartnett, Jennifer Thompson, and Shepherd Ahlers.  The combined efforts of this team have created video work that is not only beautiful, but heartwarming.  They have a love for people that is evident in their narrative work, but also in their commercial work.   But back to what I was saying about their work being beautiful: it is spectacular.  They film in a way that makes everything in life seem the best is could possibly be.

If you don’t quite get what I mean, you should watch this commercial for Classic Landscaping, Inc.

And, after you do that, you should head over to Vinegar Hill’s website and Vimeo channel.

You should also enjoy their demo reel.

Currently Loving: Video Lookbooks

Sometimes we have one of those days where we just don’t know what to wear. We’ll be in a really big “I want to look super cute and awesome” kind of mood, but just can’t seem to put anything together that looks just right. On days like these, we like to take a little style inspiration from different look books that feature looks by designers or companies/stores. A big trend recently is going beyond print and creating fashion look book videos. They are more editorial and tend to give a sense of the mood and lifestyle of what the designer and collection are all about. It also serves to give you ideas on how to wear the items from the collections that are currently out or items that the store is offering. We love being able to see  how collections from some of our favorite stores are being shown more and more through video look books. Take a look at some of our favorites that we have found. Everything in the videos from the amazing cinematography and music, to the styling and just overall creativity creates some pretty wonderful style inspiration.

Prominent Figures

Ok, this might be the coolest thing we’ve ever seen. This video by Prominent Figures was made for Josh Ritter’s “Love Is Making Its Way Back Home” single. It was created with over 12,000 pieces of construction paper, shown as it was shot, with no effects added in post. Um, yeah. Kind of amazing. We are loving every detail about this video – the music, the animation, the story – just wonderful. Have a look!

You can check out more incredible videos – yeah, there’s more of this awesomeness – at Prominent Figures website here!
