Merry Christmas! We have been enjoying the season immensely with all sorts music and good cheer. Last year we shared our favorite Christmas tunes and this year we have more to add to the mix! Our new favorite Christmas songs this holiday season have been from Branches, Beta Radio and Kings Kaleidoscope. Honestly, even the grinchiest Grinch should be able to enjoy this genuinely awesome music. Check out our favorite songs and make sure to download each band’s Christmas EPs to get into the holiday spirit!
As many of you know, back in May we held a relaunch party for Florence and Millie here in Savannah. We thought we’d finally share about it with those who weren’t able to make it. The party was an amazing success! It was held to bring a personal connection to the blog. There was amazing artwork displayed by local artists, food made by our very own Kat Lucas, fun games, and a photo booth! There was also a raffle with different prizes offered to the attendees that included a tie from Hack and Hue, an independent tie shop out of Brooklyn, NY and illustrations from Heather Pullen.
A big highlight of the evening was a performance by the Milk Factory Bandits. Their southern twangy soul filled the room with warmth and good thoughts. You can listen to more of their music at here!
Thank you so much to Jen, Melissa, and Alexis for taking photos and video, and of course a big thank you to everyone who came to the party!
The heat is rising, the sun is shining, it’s summer time! Sunglasses are the essential to a summer wardrobe. Lucky for us, there are a variety of shapes, colors and sizes offered, but this season round sunglasses are key. Who better to channel as our style icon than the man who mastered round, John Lennon. It’s taken a long time for this trend to kick up, but it’s in full force now. Here’s a select few of our favorite “rounds” for the season.
Grab your pair, roll the windows down, blast some tunes and enjoy the summer breeze!
Please excuse us while we have a hipster moment: we’ve been listening to fun. since they released their demo “Benson Hedges” in 2008. Okay, we’re done now. So, let us tell you about fun.
Fun. is the work of Nate Ruess (formerly of The Format) along with Andrew Dost and Jack Antonoff. Two months ago fun. released a new album called Some Nights. We’re diggin’ the new tunes and suggest you check out a sampling of our favorite songs. For those who were fans of The Format, you still have Nate Ruess’ unique voice to keep you happy. For those who weren’t fans of The Format, we can only assume that’s because you haven’t heard of them. Go to iTunes (or wherever you kids are buying music these days) and buy their albums. They’re wonderful.
Also, we’re going to describe this genre as Moody Alt. Rock. Which we totally dig. Without further ado: fun.
I’m taking a short break from food writing to share a few amazing prints for some of our favorite bands. Listening to music while cooking is just as much a part of the process for me as is following the recipe. These are just a handful of my go-to bands.
All of the prints are from Methane Studios and they’re all excellent. We have a couple friends here in Savannah who do this kind of printmaking work, and dang, it’s nuts. I couldn’t tell you much about the process (it looks like these are a combination of lino cuts, wood cuts and screen printing. Maybe. Maybe?), but all I know is that I want every one of these posters on my wall.
Happy Monday, all! Today is a double post! WOO. By which I mean, we’re featuring two people today in one post with only one video! It’s like a magic trick (only better). Today we’re featuring cinematographer/graphic designer/motion media artist Camille Marotte. Camille lives in Paris and he is a director as Tempesta Productions, and pretty nifty with this whole video thing. He made this video for artist Uddhava (aka Matthew Ouaki). We really love the simple, soft and beautiful music. The guitar, and whispery voice is so nice. Camille did a wonderful job capturing the emotion and beauty of the song.
So, take a listen and enjoy the music of Uddhava and the video skills of Camille Marotte.
How cool are these alphabet videos by n9ve? They are so creative! The first is a spelling-video, where each character is the initial letter of a font name. The second is a developmental spelling – video where each character visually represents the meaning of the word itself. So fun!
We just watched one of our favorite movies, Midnight in Paris, and are in dream mode. We just want to run off to Paris, go back in time to the 1920′s and be inspired. But alas, midterms are coming up and as far as we know it, time travel does not exist. Sigh. To keep us dreaming we’ve been listening to the Midnight in Paris soundtrack. It’s oh so lovely and listening to it puts us in the dreamiest and loveliest of moods. Here are some of our favorites from the movie. Enjoy.
